Retinol (Vitamin A)
The goal of any retinoid is to transform to retinoic acid in the skin to exert its action. Retinol is two metabolic steps away from it. It is a less irritating option and has a high scientific evidence of efficacy. Even so, whenever we use a retinoid we should always take into account its irritant power and apply it with caution the first few times.
Its activity is focused on keratinocytes, endothelial cells and fibroblasts, and results in a retexturization of the skin, increased rate of skin turnover, generation of new collagen and elastin fibers, serving as a filler for wrinkles and expression lines. It is also attributed with depigmenting effects and against acne, and in its continued use improves hydration and is an antioxidant.
